Beyond the Surface: How We Use Decapsulation to Ensure 100% Original Chip Quality
In the complex world of electronic manufacturing, "original and new" is the baseline, yet the market often tells a different story. Recently, some of our Russian partners expressed concerns about the prevalence of refurbished or "Low Copy" chips in the PCBA supply chain. At Fuli Hong Electronics Co., Ltd., we believe in "Trust, but Verify."
The Sourcing Dilemma
In early July 2026, we faced a challenge: a client required 100K units of the Fudan Micro MCU (FM33LC023U). Due to market shortages, official channels were exhausted. We located 10K units across five different batches from independent traders. While the client was in urgent need, the risk of "mixed quality" was high.
The Solution: Decapsulation (Decap) Testing
To protect our client’s investment, we didn't just take the supplier's word. We performed Decap testing on samples from all five batches.
The Discovery: Microscopic analysis revealed that while the die size was identical, the internal circuitry showed distinct variations in specific areas.
The Investigation: Our engineering team cross-referenced these findings with the latest datasheets. We discovered that the chips with additional circuitry were the 2025 version featuring ECC (Error Correction Code), whereas the others were the 2020 version.
Validation Through Small-Batch Production
Verification didn't stop at the lab. We coordinated with the client to produce 10pcs PCBA samples for each batch. By conducting rigorous functional testing, we ensured that the hardware performed perfectly within the client’s specific application environment before proceeding to full-scale assembly.
Conclusion
Reliable quality control in EMS isn't just about assembly—it's about rigorous component engineering. Whether it's through official channels or trusted traders, Fuli Hong ensures every chip is fit for purpose.
