Where the Time Really Goes

Imagine your PCBA project as three sequential gates:

Gate 1 — Your bare PCB (2–5 weeks). Standard boards? Quick. But if your design uses special laminates — high-frequency, high-temperature, or low-loss materials — those substrates may be in short supply. A two-week board becomes a five-week board, and nobody told you until it was too late.

Gate 2 — Your components (2 weeks to 50 weeks). This is where projects silently stall. Standard resistors, capacitors, and common ICs? Two weeks, easy. But that one specialized connector, that high-value FPGA, or that part flagged "end of life"? Twenty weeks. Fifty weeks. We've seen it happen. And because everything else is already on the shelf waiting, the entire project sits idle until that last part arrives.

Gate 3 — Assembly (2–4 days). This is the part everyone worries about — and ironically, it's the fastest. Once boards and components meet on the production line, 500 to several thousand units are assembled in just 2 to 4 days. The assembly line is rarely your bottleneck.

The most common mistake? Treating these three stages as sequential. A customer sends files on Day 1. PCB fabrication starts. Three weeks later, the board is ready. Then component sourcing begins. Another two weeks — or twenty. Assembly waits. The project drags.
